Hyper-Grace: Micheal Brown Vs Pastor Joseph Prince…

Dr. Michael L. Brown is an American Messianic Jew, radio host, conservative and author of the book ‘Hyper-Grace: Exposing the Dangers of the Modern Grace Message’…below is an article he wrote after a face to face meeting he had with Joseph Prince…

In general many assume that the views of Dr. Brown are opposite to what Joseph Prince preaches- especially after Dr. Browns ‘Hyper-Grace’ book was published.

Let us see how things stand in Jan 2017, when they both met to discuss on Grace…

After the meeting Dr. Brown says & I quote: …”the points on which we agreed far outnumbered and outweighed the points on which we differed”. The following are the 8 points where they both agreed:

  1.  It’s all about Jesus
  2. Many believers often fail to realize the depth of God’s love for them and on what Jesus did on their behalf, and so it is essential to ground them in Grace
  3. God calls us to holiness, and true grace will manifest in a holy life
  4. Sanctification is progressive, meaning, the moment we are saved, we are forgiven, declared righteous, and set apart as holy, but now we must grow in holiness
  5. The Lord corrects us, and included in the preaching of grace is the calling to “exhort and rebuke with all authority” (Titus 2:15)
  6. God’s Law is glorious and holy and beautiful- but we understand that, “The Ten Commandments are so perfect in [their] standard and so unbending in [their] holy requirements that Galatians 3:11 states that no man can be justified by the law in the sight of God. Justification before God can only come by faith in Christ.”
  7. Any form of universalism or any denial of future punishment for the lost must be categorically rejected
  8. Commitment to the local church and the authority of the local church

Michael Brown holds a Ph.D. in Near Eastern Languages and Literatures from New York University and has served as a professor at a number of seminaries. He is the author of 25 books and hosts the nationally syndicated, daily talk radio show, the Line of Fire.

Joseph Prince is the senior pastor of New Creation Church in Singapore (33000 members) and is a well known author, speaker and proponent of the Grace Revolution world-wide.

Below is given the article in its full form.

TITLE of the article: Hyper-Grace: Setting the Record Straight With Pastor Joseph Prince

On Friday, January 20 2017, while ministering in Singapore, I had the pleasure of spending two-and-a-half hours with Pastor Joseph Prince, delving into the Scriptures in Hebrew and Greek, discussing the points on which we differed, and highlighting the points on which we agreed. Without a doubt, the points on which we agreed far outnumbered and outweighed the points on which we differed.

Whenever we speak about any topic, the 2 sides of a coin story has to be told…in this article, Joseph Prince speaks about the Dangers of Counterfeit Grace…completely_forgiven

We live in exciting times. Our Lord Jesus is truly restoring the gospel of grace that was first given to Apostle Paul. Over the last decade, I have had the great privilege of reading a constant stream of praise reports and testimonies sent to our ministry office from precious people set free from all kinds of addictions, including smoking, drugs, alcohol, and especially pornography.

Beyond being unshackled by the heavy yoke of guilt and condemnation, real lives, real marriages, and real families are being transformed and these people are living for the glory of Jesus through the power of His amazing grace. Grace is not a movement, teaching, or subject to be studied. It is all about a person. His name is Jesus. What one believes about our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and what He has done at the cross, makes all the difference.

Reigning Over Sin Through Grace

To understand the grace of God, it is essential we understand the difference between the old covenant of law and the new covenant of grace. John 1:17 tell us, “For the law was given through Moses, but grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.” The law was given through a servant; grace and truth came through the Son. The law talks about what man ought to be; grace reveals who God is. The letter kills, but the Spirit gives life (see 2 Cor. 3:6). Under the law, God demands righteousness from sinfully bankrupt man. But under grace, God provides righteousness as a gift. All who believe in Jesus and acknowledge Him as their Lord and Savior are under the new covenant of grace.

Yet, many believers today are still living in confusion. They get law and grace all mixed up by holding to some aspects of the law and some aspects of grace in their Christian walk. As such, they continue in defeat, rather than reign over the power of sin through the abundance of grace and the gift of righteousness.

Romans 5:17 tells us clearly that “those who receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness will reign in life.” When we reign in life, we reign over sin, addictions, and all forms of evil.

Thankfully, our Lord Jesus is restoring the purity of the gospel of grace today and many are finding freedom from long-term addictions and other bondages. They share with great joy how the Lord has supernaturally delivered them from decades of substance abuse and sexual addictions, frequent panic attacks, and even long-term clinical depression. Others write in, brimming with thanksgiving, because He has restored their marriages and their relationships with their estranged children, and healed their bodies when doctors had given them no hope. One common denominator took these precious people from defeat to victory, from breakdowns to breakthroughs: they all had an encounter with our Lord Jesus and caught a revelation of His amazing grace.

Distortions to the Restoration of God’s Truth

Nonetheless, it is important we realize that as with any restoration of God’s truths in church history, there are distortions today to the restoration of the truth of grace. There are many controversies, inaccuracies, and counterfeits to the genuine work of grace that God is doing in His church and in people’s lives. It is also unfortunate that a small number misrepresent the truth of God’s amazing grace, using “grace” as an excuse for living a licentious lifestyle that is in clear violation of God’s Word.

It is essential that we do not draw our conclusions about God’s grace based on the few who abuse it, but study God’s Word for ourselves to understand what the original, unadulterated gospel of grace truly is.

Joseph Prince – TBN & Lakewood Church…

In case some of you didn’t know, Joseph Prince is an Indian by birth (and he has referred to himself as an Indian in few of his messages)- born to a Sikh priest of Indian origin with a birth name of- Xenonamandar Jegahusiee Singh. But he is not the 1st Christian pioneer of Sikh origins- since both Sadhu Sundar Singh and Bakht Singh precedes him.

Above are highlights of the 1st visits by JP to US in 2011.

In case you want to listen to the full Interview in TBN:

Holy Communion

No doubt that Holy Communion was of utmost importance to the early Church:

Acts 2:42:  And they devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers.

John 6:53-58:  So Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you. Whoever feeds on my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day

Acts 20:7:  On the first day of the week, when we were gathered together to break bread, Paul talked with them…

Acts 20:11: And when Paul had gone up and had broken bread and eaten, he conversed with them a long while, until daybreak, and so departed.

1 Corinthians 11:25: Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me…

It was so even to the early heroes of faith even in the past century:

following is what Bro Kenneth Copeland has written about Smith Wigglesworth, a Pentecostal pioneer:

“…The real change in Smith Wigglesworth did not come until he started getting up every day …to take Communion. Like clockwork, every day he would begin the day remembering his covenant with Almighty God by taking the bread and the cup. Every day, he lived under the influence of that covenant. And every day, he became more and more bold – until, finally, he became one of the boldest men of God in history…” (Quoted from: LINK  & LINK)

From the above understanding, I have seen a great departure in the last 100 years, where some of the present day Pentecostals view the holy communion as a monthly affair- a solemn affair than a table of Joy & celebration and often seeing the table as a table of condemnation and judgement- whereby they often stay away from it, rather than drawing nearer to Him. The result– they lose out on the benefits of partaking, due to lack of knowledge!

Grace Revolution-by Joseph Prince:

From Intro & 1st chapter of Grace Revolution- Experience the Power to Live Above Defeat, by Joseph Prince…GraceRevolution-JP

A grace revolution is sweeping across the world today. It is a revolution that is tearing down the walls of legalistic Christian religion and bringing a brand-new generation of believers into a deep and intimate relationship with the person of Jesus. As a result, precious lives are being transformed, marriages are being restored, the sick are being healed, and many are being freed from the bondage of legalism. This liberty has in turn given them the strength and power to rise above their challenges. Continue reading
